Hot-lanta to Charlotte

Yesterday morning in Atlanta, Reed and I wandered around in the heat, desperately searching for decent cup of coffee. After we finally found some, we made our way back to the air bnb where Bobby was waiting, packed up and drove 4 hours to Charlotte, NC. Once we got there, we dropped our bags off at the hotel and then made our way to The Fillmore. We were shown to our dressing room, which in this case, was just a shared lounge with a giant black leather sectional around the perimeter of the room and a tv. A bunch of the stage crew were crammed in there, napping or watching soccer (England vs Croatia). Reed left the room for awhile to get the Buchla set up. While he was out of the room, England lost the game and thus any chance of winning the World Cup. So Reed, not knowing this, walked back in and cheerily asked the (mostly English) crew “who won?” You can imagine how well that question went over. That’s what happens when non sporty people like us try to discuss sports. We just shouldn’t try. There was only one bathroom in the backstage area for everyone- us, the crew, Erasure. While I was in there putting some makeup on before the show, Andy from Erasure walked by, stopped and commented “you look like a completely different person with makeup.” I wasn’t quite sure how to respond but I thought it was funny. I think I just mumbled something about being a Berkeley mom, etc... Ten minutes before going on stage, I was rotating between three cups- whiskey (we finally bought our own bottle), Diet Coke and herbal tea with lemon and honey. They all serve a different purpose. It would be a lot more efficient for me to combine them all into one cup, but it would taste too disgusting. The Charlotte crowd had a good vibe. Someone whistled at me when I came out on stage, which at 50, I appreciated (thank you, random guy). The venue was general admission, so before and during our set, a lot of people were staking their claim up front near the stage to ensure a good view of Erasure. So we had a good crowd who either were very enthusiastic or just really good at faking enthusiasm because they’re southern and polite like that. There were a bunch of women with some sort of bachelorette party style hats on, celebrating. Today Reed and I flew to New York, and I was reunited with my mom, David and the girls. So happy to see them all. David said “so you’re all done with the tour now?”

;)
